TYPES OF DENTAL IMPLANTS

Oct 13, 2017

Sometimes, dental implants are necessary to secure an artificial tooth or even dentures to your mouth. Dental implants are essentially a metal surgical component that is attached to the jawbone that allows a dentist to attach replacement teeth to it. Fusing these implants to your bone provide stable support for artificial teeth that will not shift or slip. The solid fit that implants allow for making crowns, replacement teeth, and dentures not only more secure but feel more natural.

Occasionally, it is necessary to install dental implants or mini dental implants because dentures and artificial teeth are simply uncomfortable or impossible. Dental implants have benefits over bridges because they do not require the prepping or involvement of any other teeth. The implant is small and efficient.

Endosteal Implants

In a series of dentist visits, these implants would be mounted directly to the jawbone. After some healing takes place, during the second visit, a post would be attached to the implant. Then, the artificial tooth or denture would be attached to that post.

Subperiosteal Implants

These implants are a small frame that is installed onto the jawbone beneath your gums. Then, posts will be fitted to the frame which will protrude through the gums. Once this is done, artificial teeth or dentures can then be mounted to the posts of the frame. These denture implants allow for a secure place to mount dentures comfortably.

Mini Dental Implants

Mini dental implants are essentially no different than your typical endosteal implant. They are slightly smaller, but they will be mounted and look the same. They can be used to secure loose teeth as well as mount replacement teeth.

The differences of these implants are minor, but it will be up to your dentist to decipher which of them are proper for you. Each one serves a slightly different purpose and excels in different situations. No matter which one is right for you, they are all excellent at securing false teeth comfortably.
